Touch Gestures and Mouse Controls for Modmath 4.0

Modmath 4.0 works with mouse, trackpad, touch, and stylus input. This article covers all the ways to navigate and interact with the canvas.

Mouse and Trackpad (Desktop)

Action	How
Select a cell	Click
Pan the canvas	Click and drag on empty space
Zoom in / out	Shift/Control (Mac/Windows) + Scroll up/down
Select multiple cells	Drag in Select mode
Open context actions	Right-click (where applicable)

Touch Gestures (iPad, Tablet, Phone)

Gesture	Action
Tap a cell	Select cell
Tap empty space	Deselect
Two-finger drag	Pan the canvas
Pinch in or out	Zoom in or out
Drag (in Select mode)	Select a group of cells
Tap (in Draw Custom Shapes mode)	Start drawing

Stylus Input

On iPad, Modmath recognizes Apple Pencil input in the same way as finger touch. Stylus pressure is not used for line thickness — all strokes are uniform weight.

For cleaner input:

• Use the Add Text tool and the virtual keyboard for math content.
• Use the Draw Custom Shapes tool for freehand, graphs, lines, shapes,etc.

Zooming

• Desktop: Hold Shift/Control and scroll with your mouse wheel or trackpad to zoom in or out.
• Touch devices: Pinch with two fingers to zoom in or out.
• All devices: Use the zoom controls in the toolbar (+ and − buttons, or the zoom percentage display).

The canvas supports zoom levels from a small overview down to a close-up view of individual cells.

Panning

• Desktop: Click and drag on any empty area of the canvas to pan.
• Touch devices: Use two fingers to drag.
