Modmath is assistive technology for math. It provides a digital math canvas for students and teachers. You write math the way you'd write it on paper with digital graph paper and a built-in keypad for numbers, operators, and symbols. Modmath also provides tons of other tools to make writing equations easier, create graphs for use in more advanced math equations, and drawing and text tools to show your work.
Creating Your Account
- Go to app.modmath.com and click create an account with your Google or Apple email address, or enter your email address and set a password.
- Check your email for a verification link and click it to activate your account.
If your school provides Modmath, your administrator will send you an invitation email with instructions to set up your account.
Your Dashboard
After signing in, you land on your dashboard. This is where all your workbooks live.
- Under All Files, click + New file to create your first workbook.
- Workbooks are listed as cards or a list. Click any workbook to open it.
- Click the star icon on a workbook to mark it as a favorite.
- Click the Three Dots on a card to rename, download, export as as pdf, or delete it.
The Canvas
When you open a workbook, you see the infinite canvas — a scrollable, zoomable grid where you do your work.
Navigating the canvas
- Scroll to pan around.
- Pinch (on touch screens) or Shift + Scroll (on desktop) to zoom in and out.
Writing math
- With the keypad tool selected, tap any cell to select it. The virtual keypad opens at the bottom of the screen.
- Type numbers and operators using the keypad.
- Press a symbol key to insert it into the selected cell.
- The cursor automatically progresses to the next cell.
- If you want to enter equations, notes, or other elements in a different cell, tap a different cell to move there.
The toolbar at the bottom of the canvas contains tools for drawing, selecting, erasing, importing files, and more. See Using the Canvas for a full guide.
The Virtual Keypad
The keypad has two states: collapsed (shows the number pad and Undo/Redo) and expanded (adds three symbol tabs).
- Tap the open keypad button on the left side of the keypad to expand it.
-
Use the ADV1, ADV2, and ADV3 tabs to browse symbols.
- Tap UNDO or REDO to step through your history.
See Typing Math — Using the Keypad for the full symbol reference.
Saving Your Work
Modmath saves automatically every few seconds. You do not need to press a save button. Your work is waiting for you exactly where you left it when you return.
