Modmath 4.0 has two annotation tools to support borrowing and carrying — Highlight and Borrow and Carry. Both are available in the toolbar.
Highlighting Cells
Highlight adds a yellow tint to selected cells, useful for marking answers, flagging cells to review, or drawing attention to specific parts of a problem.
To highlight:
- Select the Highlight Equations tool
in the canvas toolbar (the highlighter icon).
- Click any cell to toggle the highlight on.
- Click the same cell again to remove the highlight.
Highlights are visible on the canvas and saved with the workbook.
Borrow and Carry Digits
The Borrow and Carry tool draws a diagonal line through a cell, indicating that the content has been cancelled or replaced, and automatically inserts a carry digit in the upper-left corner of that cell.
To Borrow and Carry:
- Select the Borrow and Carry tool
in the canvas toolbar.
- Click any cell to apply a strikethrough. Enter a new digit in the upper-left corner of that cell.
- Click the same cell again to remove it.
Removing Annotations
Click a highlighted or crossed-out cell while in the corresponding mode to toggle it off. To remove all cell content including annotations, use the Erase Cell tool (the eraser icon) to wipe the entire cell.
Note on Italics
Modmath does not currently support italic text formatting on individual characters within a cell. All character styling is at the cell level (highlight, borrow/carry, etc.).
