Saving and Exporting Your Work in Modmath 4.0

Modmath saves your work automatically and lets you export canvas files for backup or transfer between devices.

Automatic Saving

Your canvas saves automatically every few seconds as you work. You do not need to press a save button. When you return to a workbook, it opens exactly where you left it.

Work is stored locally in your browser using your device's file system storage (OPFS). This means:

• Your work is tied to the browser and device you are using.
• Clearing your browser's site data will erase saved workbooks.
• Work is not automatically synced to the cloud or other devices.

Exporting a Canvas

You can export a workbook as a PDF file to back it up or move it to another device.

1. Open the workbook you want to export.
2. Click the Three Dots (next to the Workbook name), tap the Export button (download icon).

A PDF file is saved to your device's Downloads folder. The filename matches your workbook name.

Importing a Canvas

To restore a .mm file or open one on a different device:

1. Open any workbook (or create a new one).
2. In the canvas toolbar, tap the Import button.
3. Select File Library and choose your .mm file.

The canvas loads the exported state exactly as it was when exported.

 

About the .mm Format

.mm files are a Modmath-specific format that captures everything on the canvas:

• Cell content (numbers, symbols, operators)
• Freehand drawing strokes
• Images and their positions
• Annotations (fractions, exponents, highlights, crossouts)
• Canvas viewport (zoom level and position)

.mm files cannot be opened in other applications. They are for use within Modmath only.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I export as a PDF or image? Yes. Export as PDF or save as a .mm file.

Will my work be lost if I switch browsers? Yes — work saved in one browser is not available in another. Save your work as a .mm file before switching and re-import it.

Does Modmath back up to the cloud automatically? Not at this time. Use the export function to create your own backups.
