Modmath automatically draws a horizontal line beneath arithmetic expressions as you type, matching the way equations are written by hand. You do not need to add lines manually.
How It Works
When Modmath detects a complete arithmetic expression — a row of numbers connected by operators (＋ − × ÷) — it draws a line below that row. The line spans the full width of the expression.
Example:
2 4
+ 1 3
─────
As soon as you enter +, 1, and 3 in the cells below 2 4, the line appears automatically beneath them.
Supported Expressions
Equation lines appear for:
- Addition (＋)
- Subtraction (−)
- Multiplication (×)
- Division (÷)
The detector looks for a number, an operator, and at least one more number in a contiguous row.
Updating Automatically
The line updates as you edit:
- Adding digits — the line extends to cover new cells.
- Erasing digits — the line shrinks or disappears if the expression is no longer complete.
- Moving cells — the line follows when you drag a group of cells to a new position.
Tips
- Lines draw below the last row of the expression. Write your answer in the row below the line.
- If no line appears, check that you have a valid expression — an operator must be present in the same row.
- Equation lines are visual only and do not check or calculate answers.
