Audience: School IT administrators
Requirements: MDM access (Jamf Pro, Jamf School, or Apple School Manager with a supported MDM), Modmath Enterprise license
Overview
Modmath Enterprise is a web app. No App Store installation is required. Deployment consists of pushing a managed web clip to student devices via your MDM and configuring sign-in for your students.
Step 1. Confirm your license
Before deploying, sign in to the Modmath Admin Portal at app.modmath.com/admin (coming soon) and confirm your license is active and your student seats are configured.
Step 2. Create a scope or smart group for Modmath students
Target your deployment to the correct devices by creating a dedicated scope in your MDM. In Jamf Pro or Jamf School:
- Go to Computers/Devices > Smart Groups (or Groups in Jamf School)
- Create a new group using relevant criteria (for example: device group, department, or user group)
- Assign the relevant student devices or user accounts to this group
This ensures the Modmath web clip and configuration profile are scoped only to students who need it.
Step 3. Push the Modmath web clip
A web clip creates a home screen shortcut that launches Modmath Enterprise in a full-screen browser experience. In Jamf Pro:
- Go to Configuration Profiles > New
- Add a Web Clip payload
- Set the following:
- Label: Modmath
- URL: https://app.modmath.com
- Full screen: Enabled
- Removable: Disabled (recommended)
- Scope the profile to your Modmath student group
- Save and deploy
In Jamf School:
- Go to Profiles > New Profile
- Add a Web Clip section
- Enter the URL (https://app.modmath.com), label, and icon
- Assign to the relevant group and deploy
The Modmath icon will appear on student iPads after the profile installs.
Step 4. Student sign-in
Students can sign in to Modmath Enterprise using any of the following:
- Managed Apple email via Apple Sign-In
- Managed Google email via Google Sign-In
- Email address and password - students signing in this way will need to set a password for their Modmath account on first sign-in
For Apple-managed schools, Apple Sign-In with managed Apple IDs provides the smoothest student experience and requires no additional configuration beyond standard MDM enrollment.
Step 5. Verify deployment
- Select a test device in your Modmath scope
- Confirm the web clip appears on the home screen
- Launch Modmath and verify the student can sign in and access the correct school dashboard
Troubleshooting
Web clip not appearing
Confirm the configuration profile has been deployed and check the device's profile list under Settings > General > VPN and Device Management. If the profile is missing, re-push from your MDM.
Student cannot sign in
Sign in to the Admin Portal at app.modmath.com/admin and confirm the student's email address is rostered and their seat is enabled. Students will not be able to access Modmath until both conditions are met.
Apple Sign-In not working
Verify that managed Apple IDs are active in Apple School Manager and that the student device is enrolled and supervised. Apple Sign-In requires a supervised device for the best experience.
Full-screen web clip opens Safari instead
Confirm the Full screen option is enabled in the Web Clip payload. On unsupervised devices, full-screen mode may not be enforced. Supervision is recommended for managed student iPads.
